For the traveling Ashtanga yogi, Matthew Sweeney has brought you a portable edition of his original guide to Ashtanga, Astanga Yoga As It Is. This smaller edition includes a graphic depiction of the Asanas of the first four sequences of Ashtanga Yoga, using the same, simple black-and-white photography of Matthew Sweeney in his practice found in his previous books and posters. Sweeney includes the Sanskrit names, along with breath instruction and drishti points for each pose. A Sanskrit glossary is included in the back of this edition corresponding to each Asana used in the sequences. Take your practice on the road with this lightweight, concise visual guide to Ashtanga yoga as taught by Sri Krisna Pattabhi Jois and expanded upon by Matthew Sweeney. Matthew Sweeney is a Yoga teacher who has studied Zen Shiatsu, Oki-do, and Iyengar yoga styles before settling into his Ashtanga practice. Since 1996 he has been teaching Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and developing his own unique sequences that are very accessible and healing. Matthew's work is informed by 20 years of self inquiry, including different styles of Meditation, a number of Vipassana 10 day courses, Tantra workshops, Gestalt Therapy, Transpersonal Therapy and Transforming Cellular Memory. In 2015 Matthew and his partner Lauren opened their Bali retreat center. Many of his courses will now be based there, including 3 months of ongoing courses each year and teacher training every second year. Matthew also travels and teaches Yoga workshops in Australia, Asia, North America and Europe and conducts Yoga Programs in other unique locations as well. His book Vinyasa Krama contains his original series and their intended purposes while Astanga Yoga As It Is is an in depth look at the traditional Ashtanga practice.
