I originally sourced these books for trainings in Asia and immediately realized they were things of great value. Of course they are translations and commentary on one of the central scriptures of the yoga tradition, but there are many on the site already so I needed a very good reason to add more. These volumes offer numerous reasons for inclusion on the Yoga Life Style site, both practical and philosophical. The immediate appeal of the small version is that it is both hard bound and so quite sturdy and small enough to easily fit in a backpack or handbag at 4.5 x 6.25 inches. Many years ago I had a small hardbound Gita that I took with me everywhere till it succumbed to hard use, with a cracked spine and tattered cover, and had to be retired for fear of ruining it altogether. I've always wanted to offer such an edition but could find none that was suitable till now. I am delighted to offer it here. If you would like to have the condensed wisdom of the sages with you always this volume is a good candidate to take along. The deeper appeal of both these volumes is that they are accepted classic translations that are as fresh and easy to access as they were at the time of their introduction in 1944. In reviewing Swami Nikhilananda's work Time Magazine had this to say " The first really readable, authoratative translation of one of the world's oldest and greatest religious classics." It was hailed, in its day, by great writers, religious leaders and intellectuals and like most classic works stands up well to the passing of time. Finally, this book is still published by the Ramakrishna Vivekananda Center in NY, so purchasing it continues to contribute to the health and vitality of their Ashrams and good works.
